GROHE Ondus App

BEFORE A DRIP BECOMES A FLOOD

Grohe, the world’s leading provider of sanitary fittings, introduced Ondus, the all-in-one smart home app that covers every aspect of in-house water management, in 2017. It was launched contemporaneously with the market release of Sense and Sense Guard, Grohe’s first water security system, that detects pipe breaks as well as micro leakages and unusal water consumption or changes in temperature and humidity.


Working closely with the Grohe Design Team over 24 months to create the app, my role was to help craft the design and experience for both iOS and Android platforms. This included working on visual design, information architecture, user experience, rapid prototyping, motion design & direction, and delivery of the final product. We also needed to develop an experience that could scale in both content and features, so we worked across categories to craft a coherent design language & framework that could be applied across the digital product ecosystem.

The Ondus interface design distinguishes fundamentally from similar products in the industry. By means of a clear layout grid, consequent color coding as well as reduced typography we accomplished a modern design language throughout all screens.

The basic idea of integrating smart products in a virtual home makes it easy for any user to track real-time data from their homes and get notifications in case of emergency. By clearly focussing on every product’s core features, we reduced complexity in the UX/UI.

With the introduction of the Ondus app along with Sense and Sense Guard in 2017, GROHE opened up a brand new market, that is unique in the sanitary industry. At the same time we completed the product portfolio from water supplying appliances to water safety and water saving products. Following this strategy GROHE Design successfully makes the shift from product design to customer experience design.
